Started in 1977 in the Tri-cities area, Lee's TaeKwonDo Class & Martial Art have been teaching students of all ages. TaeKwonDo is beneficial to increase overall fitness and health as well as flexibility and discipline. TaeKwonDo is the official sport of South Korea. We teach traditional TaeKwonDo from the Kukkiwon.
Two main types of TaeKwonDo exist: The traditional style from the Kukkiwon and a more modern style from the International TaeKwonDo Association. The traditional style is governed by the World TaeKwonDo Federation (WTF) and is a sport in the Summer Olympics.
TaeKwonDo is a Korean style of martial art that has existed for over 2,000 years in Korea and date back to 50 B.C. In Korean, tae (Hangul: 태, hanja: 跆) means "to strike or break with foot"; kwon (Hangul: 권, hanja: 拳) means "to strike or break with fist"; and do (Hangul: 도, hanja: 道) means "way" or "method".
